03 / Your attention

No advertising or analytics SDKs in this version.

Effective October 21, 2026 · Earthling is developed by Ronald Wayne Ferree II.

01What this covers.

This policy describes Earthling for iPhone and iPad: a personal field guide and notebook for small daily activities, notes, photos, sketches, and voice recordings.

Earthling does not currently operate a server that receives your notebook, provide cloud sync, include advertising or analytics SDKs, or send your content to an AI service. The app does use Apple system services when you choose features such as Sign in with Apple or Restore purchases.

For privacy questions, contact ronaldferree@gmail.com. Apple and other services you choose to open handle information under their own policies.

02What stays with your notebook.

Earthling saves the following information locally to provide its features:

Information · Purpose
Notes & attachmentsNote titles, text, dates, photos you select or capture, sketches, and voice recordings, including attachment metadata needed to display them.
ActivitiesActivities and daily plans you add, their dates, and completion history used to show your day and activity streaks.
ProfileYour first name, any bio or profile photo you add, your reported completed years on Earth and the date you recorded them, and an optional birthday if you add one for exact age calculation.
PreferencesYour chosen Notes view, onboarding state, and morning reminder preferences.
Apple connectionIf you sign in with Apple, an Apple-issued user identifier is stored in this device’s non-syncing Keychain. Your first name and connection state are saved in your local profile.

Earthling’s app data may be included in device or iCloud backups under your Apple settings. Signing in with Apple does not enable Earthling notebook sync. Data you share or export using system features is handled by the destination you choose.

03Apple & system services.

Sign in with Apple is optional. You can use Earthling with a local name instead. If you choose Apple, the app requests your name, uses your given name when Apple provides it, and saves the Apple-issued identifier described above. It does not request your email address, store your Apple password, or keep authentication tokens. Apple handles authentication and credential-status checks.

Reminders are scheduled locally. With your permission, Earthling schedules a daily notification for 9 a.m. using the device’s local time zone. This feature does not register for remote push notifications or request location access.

Restore purchases uses the App Store. If you tap Restore purchases, Earthling asks Apple to check your eligible purchase history. The current version has no configured paid features. Earthling does not receive your payment-card information.

Apple’s services are covered by Apple’s privacy policy. You may also choose to send Apple diagnostics or use Apple backups through your device settings; those choices are managed by Apple.

04Only when you choose.

Earthling requests access in context, when you use a feature:

  • Camera: to take a photo for a field note. Captured photos are saved with the notebook rather than automatically to your Photos library.
  • Microphone: to record an attached voice note. There is no automatic transcription.
  • Photos: the system photo picker gives Earthling the images you select without granting general access to your photo library.
  • Notifications: to deliver the optional morning reminder. You can turn reminders off in Earthling and change system permission in Settings.

Earthling does not request location, contacts, Health, or tracking permission in this version. Permission choices do not prevent you from writing a note, making a sketch, or using the guide.

If you share an invitation or other content with the system share sheet, the selected app or service handles that content under its own practices. Guide source links and volunteer resources open third-party websites, which may receive standard browser and connection information when visited.

05Your choices & deletion.

Locally saved information remains in the app’s storage until you remove it or the app data is erased. You can edit your profile, remove a saved age or birthday, delete individual notes, and switch optional reminders off.

To erase the local notebook, open Settings → Delete local account, review the confirmation, and choose Delete account and notebook. This removes your local profile, notes, draft, attachments, activities, reminder settings, and the app’s saved Apple identifier from this device. Earthling cannot recover that erased notebook for you.

This action does not itself revoke Sign in with Apple authorization, change App Store purchase records, remove existing device backups, or delete copies you shared to other services. Revoke Apple authorization through your Apple Account settings and manage backups or shared copies through the relevant service.

If a deletion cannot finish, Earthling reports that it is incomplete and allows you to retry. A support request should not include your private notebook content.

07Years on Earth.

Count my years starts on in the welcome flow. You can choose to enter your completed years on Earth. Earthling saves that number and its recording date locally; it does not infer a birthday or automatically increase the age on a guessed anniversary. You can add an optional birthday in Profile for automatic age calculation, or turn counting off to hide the count without erasing those details. Clear the entered years or switch off the optional birthday in Profile to remove that information. This feature is not an age-verification service. Your birth date is not shown as a public profile field, and the app has no public profile directory.

08Keep this clear, too.

This policy may be updated when Earthling’s features or information practices change. The latest policy and effective date will appear here. App Store privacy disclosures are kept consistent with the app’s practices.
